The Audacity of Sports: “Watch Me”

Home/Store/I A A D D K Blog/The Audacity of Sports: “Watch Me”

Kids don’t overthink it.

They don’t stop to ask if they’re ready, if they’re good enough, or if they should wait their turn. They just step in, pick up the ball, and go.

Sometimes they shout it out loud. Sometimes they don’t say a word. But the message is always the same: Watch me.

That’s why these stories hit so hard in our Audacity of Sport series. They’re not about perfect form or winning trophies. They’re about presence. About having a go. About backing yourself before anyone else does.

Confidence comes before proof.

As adults, we wait for evidence. Us kids don’t. We shoot before we’ve mastered the shot. We run before we’re the fastest kid on the field. We try things they’ve never done and act like we’ve been doing them forever.

That fearless belief is the heart of every great inclusive youth health, fitness, sports story. It’s not ability first — it’s belief first. And that belief is where everything begins.

Not every path looks the same.

Some kids pick things up right away. Others need more time. Some need extra support to get going. None of that changes the mindset. We still show up. We still try. We still find our own way to say, “Watch me.”

We saw it recently with a young man named Luciano from Shoot4Success. He started out needing more help on the court, but he kept turning up. Kept putting in the work. Now he’s scoring, hitting shots, leading plays, and even coaching others.

It wasn’t one big breakthrough moment. It was all the small ones stacked together. That’s what real progress looks like.

Effort is what stands out.

Us kids don’t hide how hard we’re trying. We don’t pretend it’s easy. We go all in — even when it’s messy. A missed shot becomes the next attempt. A fall becomes getting back up. Every challenge turns into something to figure out.

That raw, honest effort is the heartbeat of our stories.

When us kids say, “Watch me,” we’re not asking for your approval. We’re inviting you into our world — to see us try, to see us improve, to see us belong.

That’s what matters most to us kids.

When we build environments where every kid feels they can step in and be part of the game, those “Watch me” moments multiply. And that’s exactly what we’re creating at Dewey Does.

More opportunities. More movement. More chances for us kids to feel confident enough to say those two powerful words.

Because sport doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful. It just needs to be open — open to different paths, open to growth, and open to every kid willing to step up and give it a go.

This is the audacity of sports.

Those moments stay with forever.

And every single one counts.
